Press Statement | Sophie Walton

May 22, 2022

There have been reports circulating on social media in the last couple of days of a candidate being pregnant.

That candidate being Sophie Walton of The Progress Party.

These reports come with the implication that Sophie would not be able to carry out her duties if elected to the States Assembly.

We, as a party, deplore any suggestion that a woman being pregnant or becoming pregnant during a term of office is somehow going to detract from the important role of an elected politician. This misogynistic weaponisation of a pregnancy is not acceptable in Jersey or anywhere else.

Sophie, who is not pregnant, wishes Sophie and Guy Walton who are the ones actually pregnant all the best for the future with their new child.
